Eric

Born in Rotterdam on 16-10-1967

Since May 2014 together with my dear Els, rock in the surf. My champ of a daughter Elianne was born in September 2006 from a previous (marital) relationship.

From my first steps I was on and on the water. First on the Kralingse plas (RZV) and later from the Haringvliet (de Put) into Zeeland and onto the North Sea. In fact, I could sail before I could walk! I learned sailing from my father in a Pirate. Not without fits and starts because after the first lesson I jumped overboard and swam to shore screaming “I don't want to sail!” But I was soon sold... Later on, that turned into competitions in the Optimist, Laser, Zestien Kwadraat and holidays with my parents' Trintella I to countries on the North Sea.

The choice for the nautical school was therefore made early on. First the secondary nautical school to train as Maroff and then the cold ground training for Stuurman Grote Handelsvaart and Master All Ships.

After 10 years of sailing around the world on heavy cargo ships of Mammoet Shipping/BigLift Shipping, I went ashore to work as a project manager for the same shipping company. Before that, I traveled all over the world. Since 2008 I have been working as a Marine Warranty Surveyor at EVH Surveys International BV together with my two partners.

Due to working conditions, it has never been practical in the past 30 years to own a seaworthy sailing ship. Chartering a sailing boat during the holiday periods was much cheaper. For example, many sailing boats have passed from 36 to 52 feet. In the Netherlands, but also in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas.

In addition to the holiday trips, I also participated in several sea races, including to the Azores and Norway.

However, the dream of a world trip with your own ship has always remained. And there is so much more to discover on this globe. During the start of the Covid period in 2020, the realization that life is short and can just turn upside down became all the greater. My motto is that you experience greater freedom on a sailing ship than in a house on land.

The urgency to live my dream is NOW, especially with a woman by my side who also wants to embark on that adventure.

Live your dreams and live them Now!
